Why You Should Never Put a Litter Box Outside
In the wild, cats bury their waste to stay safe. This is natural instinct. Waste has a strong smell, and other animals can use that smell to find them.
If you put your cat's litter box outside, you're not just sending a signal to your cat. You're sending a strong smell to every animal in the neighborhood. This can attract:
Other cats living nearby, who may act territorial and scare your cat further away.
Predators, who may follow the smell and see your cat as prey.
Aggressive wildlife
Instead, use your own scent to guide your cat home. Place a piece of worn clothing or fabric outside — something with your smell on it. Your cat knows your smell and finds it comforting. This can help your cat come home without attracting other animals.
🚫 Do not put your cat's litter box outside. It causes more harm than good, and in some cases makes things worse.
